Phrasal verbs are one of the most misunderstood tools in IELTS Writing. Students often believe that using more phrasal verbs guarantees a higher band, but precision beats quantity. The three-pattern phrasal verb framework

Band 7+ students use phrasal verbs in three patterns: to describe processes ("carry out a survey"), to summarise actions ("bring about change"), and to express cause and effect ("lead to improvements"). These patterns are safe, formal, and examiner-friendly.
